Sleep Medicine Locum Opportunity

Health Sciences North | Horizon Santé-Nord (HSN), in Sudbury, Northeastern Ontario, is recruiting health care professionals who have a keen interest in effecting change within its dynamic health care system. Our network of integrated facilities and programs work together for the benefit of our patients, communities, physicians, researchers, staff and learners in the areas of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care. As the tertiary care referral centre for the entire Northeastern Ontario region, HSN serves a catchment population of over 600,000.

HSN is currently seeking a Sleep Medicine Locum Physician for our Sleep Disorders Centre (SDC). The SDC is a fully functional Level 1, six bed unit and has been a part of the Department of Respiratory Therapy at Health Sciences North since 1990. We perform diagnostic and therapeutic Nocturnal Polysomnography as well as daytime studies including Multiple Sleep Latency and Maintenance of Wakefulness. We operate our lab seven nights per week closing only for statutory holidays. Our experienced staff is comprised of both Registered and Non-Registered Polysomnographers.

This is a 12-18 month locum opportunity as we increase our full-time medical complement. We are looking for 2 sleep specialists to provide regular on-site locum coverage and to provide clinical assessment and follow-up to 6-8 patients with respiratory sleep disorders weekly. Telemedicine is available at HSN, however, the ideal candidate will consider a combination of on-site assessment and remote reading to ensure optimal patient care (18-20 sleep studies remotely). The credentialing process will begin Fall 2016. Our longer-term goal is to recruit 2 full-time respirologists/certified sleep specialists by Summer 2017.

Candidates must have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and be licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
