CSCN Travel Awards for WSS 2019


Overview. A major initiative of the Canadian Sleep and Circadian Network (CSCN; is to provide Canadian trainees engaged in sleep and rhythms research with the opportunity to attend and participate in international science conferences.  This year the CSCN is providing trainee travel awards to attend the 2019 World Sleep Meeting (WSS) and the CIHR-CSS-CSCN Trainee Day being held in Vancouver (BC, Canada) from September 20-25 (meeting information can be found at: Each award is worth $1000 and is to be used for conference registration, travel and/or hotel costs. Awards are only available to full-time trainees (medical trainees, postdoctoral fellows and graduate/undergraduate students) who are conducting research at any accredited Canadian university, and who are presenting a poster or giving an oral presentation at this meeting.  Trainees are required to attend the CIHR-CSS-CSCN Trainee Day and the entire meeting. NOTE: Trainees who have already received a CIHR Travel Award to attend the 2019 WSS Meeting are NOT eligible to receive a 2019 CSCN Travel Award.

Application Process.  Interested trainees should submit the following information as a single PDF file to Dominique Petit (Cette adresse courriel est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. Vous devez activer le JavaScript pour la visualiser.) by August 26, 2019.  All applications will be peer-reviewed by members of the CSCN Training Committee and/or Executive Committee.

Required Documents:

1) A letter of support completed by your immediate supervisor confirming full-time enrolment in a Bachelor's medical, biology, neuroscience, psychology, dental, pharmacy degree OR your status as a full-time Masters or PhD student or as a post-doctoral fellow at a recognized Canadian academic institution.

2) A copy of the abstract/summary that has been submitted to the 2019 WSS Meeting.

 NOTE: Successful applicants (those who receive a CSCN Trainee Travel Award) will also be required to provide:

1) Confirmation of acceptance regarding your submitted abstract will be required before releasing funds to successful applicants.

2) Confirmation of CSCN membership will be required before releasing funds to successful applicants.  Note:  CSCN membership is free and details for becoming a CSCN member can be found at:

3) For reimbursement, depending on what is claimed to get to a value of $1000, you will need to provide a proof of attendance (necessary for all: badge), registration with proof of full payment, air travel boarding passes (original paper passes or electronic boarding passes with 2D code) and/or hotel bill with proof of full payment.

4) The address where the payment should be sent (a home address is usually preferable).
